Using Software to Help You Write Your Book

book writing softwareWhile you very well may be able to write a book without any specialized software, these helpful tools can help you write your book much faster.

People have been writing books for centuries, even before the invention of the typewriter. However, with each new invention – from typewriters and word processors to book-writing software – writing a book becomes much easier and more efficient.

Surely you’ll agree that writing a book takes a huge amount of work and requires you to be very organized. It can be quite a difficult task, indeed. So, anything designed to help make your work easier is definitely worth trying.

There is a large variety of useful software that can help people with the book-writing process. This software is typically split into the following three categories.

Organizational Software

An example of great organizational software is Scrivener. Scrivener can help you arrange the various ideas of your book and organize them easily and efficiently, guiding you all along the way. While traditional word processors are suitable for writing short documents, software such as Scrivener is better if you are writing a long novel or book.

This is because there are a large number of ideas and sections when it comes to writing a book, and traditional word processors simply were not designed to accomplish this many tasks. However, organizational software can help keep track of all your ideas, simplifying the tedious task of organizing.

Writing Style Improvement Software

There are many products that can analyze your writing style and give you advise for improvement. While the grammar checker in Microsoft Word can handle small volumes of work, you will need something more advanced when writing a book. StyleWriter is a terrific software tool that can serve this purpose.

StyleWriter is an advanced software package that can help you rewrite your work of art, by correcting any mistakes, offering different sentence constructions, pointing out lapses in style, and smoothing out the final draft. This software is a terrific way to improve your writing, as it can identify your mistakes so that you will not make them again.

Plot Creation Software

Some great examples of plot creation software are Writer’s Cafe and NewNovelist. This software goes a large step beyond organization and improving style. Plot creation software can guide you in writing your book by offering useful suggestions on how to improve your plot. It can also analyze the structure of your book and offer suggestions on making your narrative more dramatic.

Open Office and Microsoft Word are great software tools to help you write short documents. However, when you want to write a lengthy novel or book, you may benefit from specialized book-writing software programs that can handle a large volume of tasks.

Book-writing software has unique features that can be extremely valuable to authors today. Thus, why not take the opportunity to take advantage of these useful tools for your next book-writing endeavor?

I’m using yWriter (totally free fiction-writing software) to write my novel. I love it! It really helps me keep track of everything and keep a clear overview of my novel.

It also works well for anyone using Randy Ingermanson’s famous Snowflake method of developing a novel. Randy sells his own Snowflake Method software, but for anyone who can’t afford to buy it, yWriter makes a great alternative!

Great web site, by the way.

I had absolutely no idea that there was software to help you write a book! Who could have imagined such a thing? I’m excited to try some of these out and see what kind of stories they come up with. I wonder how many books I’ve read used software to help them along!

Nice tips and tools you have mentioned here.

I have always used Microsoft Office in writing my books as it is simple and easy to deal with. But i also use other tools with it that have functionalites M.Office can’t do, like “Book Cover Pro” (www.bookcoverpro.com) to design & create the book cover, and “PDF Index Generator” (www.pdfindexgenerator.com) to create the book index.

My current books look nice designed, but i think it is time to look for a more professional tool than Microsoft Office. It is time for a change. Your mentioned tools will be my starting point.

    Michael
